W2: Creating a New Social Media Platform
In these few years, social media platform has become a trend especially among teenagers. In October 2023, there are more than 4.95 billion individuals use social media around the world, the average user visits 6.7 of these platforms each month (Dean, 2024). Social media giants like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, there are a gap in their platform that focusses on mental well-being and sharing beneficial content. Thus, I decided to design a new social media platform to cater individuals seeking a healthier online experience, I called it “Hong”. Hong focusses on providing a mental health resource, promoting educational and self-improvement content.
Hong makes itself different from the existing social media platform with some different features aimed to enhancing user experience and promote mental well-being. Hong had included mental health resources like activities that can make user relief their stress and access to certified therapists. Hence, users can seek for advice and participate programs for well-being to tailor their needs. Besides that, Hong encourages quality interaction by prioritizing from close friend and family fostering a deeper relationship.
Additionally, Hong is serves as a hub for learning purpose and personal growth. It offers users access to courses and tutorial on various topic ranging from professional development to hobbies and wellness. Moreover, Hong has its own feedback system to ensure the positive interactions in community. It comes out with a feedback system where users can give and receive feedback on their posts, at the same time users must follow the guidelines to ensure the feedback is helpful and respectful.
Hong’s target audience consists of individual who value on mental well-being, personal growth, and authentic connections. These people include mental health advocates who feel strongly about mental health and wellness, young adults and professionals looking for a healthier social media experience, people interested in personal growth resources, lifelong learners who enjoy gaining new skills and knowledge through online courses and educational content, and community-oriented those who are actively involved in their communities and want to connect with others who share their interests.
Hong seeks to make better communication and social interactions by creating a positive, healthy online community. Through consist of mental health resources, social media platform may have a less negative impact on mental health issues like anxiety and depression by giving users access to resources and advice to cope with their mental health. Hong helps users build deeper, more meaningful relationships by promoting information from close friends and promoting real conversations. This helps decrease the shallowness that is often linked with social media. Users are encouraged to take part in their own growth by the platform's emphasis on educational content and self-improvement, which increases knowledge, skills, and general life satisfaction.
In conclusion, Hong has
fill in the critical gap in social media platform by prioritizing mental
well-being , authentic connections and personal growth. With it unique features
and targeted audience, Hong has the potential transform social interaction and
offering a healthier online experience.
